Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was conceived in Miami,
Florida on November 30, 1977. American electro-house musician, record producer,
D.J. Music executive. He is the third of Chizuru and Rocky Aoki's kids. His
father was a wrestler and also the founder of the restaurant chain Benihana. He
has two older brothers, Kana (sometimes called Grace), and Kevin (owner Doraku
Sushi restaurant). His half-sister's model & actress Devon Aoki. The
family was raised in Newport Beach, California and graduated from Newport Harbor
High School, where he was a member of the varsity badminton team. He went to UC
Santa Barbara and graduated with two B.A. He earned two degrees: one in
sociology and one in feminist studies. He was a college student who produced
records by himself and held underground concerts in his Biko area at the Santa
Barbara Student Housing Cooperative. It was a concert venue and the Biko room
was dubbed The Pickle Patch. He was active with student activism and created
the Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League section on campus. In his early 20s
Dim Mak was establishing his own record label, known as Dim Mak in honor of his
favorite childhood idol Bruce Lee. In March of 2010 the artist released I'm in
the House, a collaboration w/ the Zuper Blahq-alter-ego of The Black Eyed Peas
singer will.i.am. It was ranked No. 29 on the U.K. singles chart in its debut
week. The track climbed to the top 5 in both the U.K. Indie Chart and the U.K.
Dance Chart. The track was featured on the MTV series Jersey Shore. It also was
featured in Piranha, the feature film Piranha and the trailer for Think Like A
Man. Interviews with HitQuarters in May 2010 with Lucas Secon revealed that
Rivers Cuomo and he had just worked on a single. In 2012, Pollstar designated
him as the top dance artist in terms of revenue in North America from tours. He
has worked with artists such as Iggy Azalea, Afrojack, LMFAO, Linkin Park,
Will.i.am, Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback Luke, BTS, Louis Tomlinson, Rise
Against, Vini Vici & Fall Out Boy. He is well-known for his remixes of
artists such as Kid Cudi.
